Psalms 103 – 105 speak of God as a provider. He provides for his people spiritually (103), for his creation materially (104) and for his nation redemptively (105).
Henry Lyte, a Scottish clergyman of the 19th century took Psalm 103 and from its sentiment wrote the following words:
Praise, my soul, the King of Heaven
To His feet thy tribute bring
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven
Who like me His praise should sing
Praise Him, praise Him
Praise Him, praise Him
Praise the everlasting king.

Psalm 103 is devoid of many of the traits of David’s other psalms. There is no mention of his situation, no retribution, and no mention of his enemies. It is entirely a hymn of praise to God for God’s “benefits,” and his character. God is compassionate and gracious and abounding in love. His forgiveness banishes our sinful guilt to the furthest reaches of infinity (“as far as the east is from the west”) and it takes the space between His residence and ours to hold all his love. His benefits are forgiveness, healing, redemption, physical strength and abundant care.
There is no one like God, and he is most deserving to be praised.
